1. The University in which you are studying must provide a certificate that demonstrates the credits you obtained and that these were satisfactory.      
2. In addition to this certificate, they must provide a letter indicating that the purpose of the applicant’s stay in Spain as a Language Assistant, is a continuation or complement to their studies (ex: If they had pursued studies in International Relations, improving their oral skills in the Spanish language is a clear complement to their studies).      
3.  When renewing their NIE (Foreign Identification Number) at the Police Station where they obtained their original NIE, Applicants must provide these two documents, as well as the letter they will receive when the scholarship has been approved.      

  How are the grants awarded? Is this on a “first come first serve” basis?  The grants are awarded according to the merits presented by the candidates.     WHILE IN SPAIN … top   What kind of accommodation do grantees get? Who provides the accommodation?  Grantees must provide for their own accommodation. That may range from a room in a family’s home to a shared apartment (most likely). In some cases the schools offer the necessary help to find a place.   Can I get a support job while in Spain?  It would be illegal to get a paid job because you will have a student visa.   After the year is over, must I return to the US?  I am looking for a way to permanently stay in Spain, and I was thinking that after the year I can look for another job there. Your visa will only allow you to stay as a student during the time allowed by in the grant. In some exceptional cases you could apply for a second year as a teaching assistant.   If you want to stay beyond the period allowed by the grant you will have to apply for a different type of visa when your contract as an assistant ends.   What does the medical insurance cover?  The medical coverage varies among regions. In most cases a wide coverage is offered ranging from primary medical services to surgery and long term treatments.   What kind of “other activities” can a teaching assistant be asked to do? Teaching assistants might be asked to participate in all sorts of events the school organises such as cultural activities, visits or field trips. Some are mentioned in the guidelines for application.   Where does the training course take place and how long does it last? The training course takes place in Madrid, for candidates assigned to all regions except for Andalucía. • Grantees will work as English language assistant teachers, under the supervision and guidance of a classroom teacher.
• Assistant teachers will teach 12 hours per week.
• Assistants and the classroom teacher (or the school representatives) may agree upon other activities and responsibilities in which they should be involved, including attending faculty meetings, making presentations in classes and participating in extra-curricular activities such as, workshops, field trips, student exchanges, music and theater performances, or sports events.
